This Madonna and Child drawing is described as after Ferraù Fenzoni di Faenza, a town near Florence.

It was once thought to be by Raphael and it has been signed “ Tintoretto” on the lower right. It was part of the John Jacob Lindman collection (see the LUGT mark JJL).

The dimensions are approximately 42 x 30 cm, and the medium is red and brown ink. The date is 1562-1645.

Is it an original Fenzoni drawing? Or a later interpretation? The image below may be the related Fenzoni painting.

This is the Madonna and Child with Saint Francis and Angels sold at Christies in 2018.

It was not listed as by Fenzoni, just Bolognese School, circa 1700. However it was thought subsequently to be by him because an engraving of the painting by Francesco Villamena done in 1597 was discovered.

It seems we have the painting the drawing is linked to.

It looks to have two armorial watermarks which are difficult to see and which need to be dated. I wonder if anyone can see them clearly enough?

Is it listed in the catalogue of the collection of JJ Lindman? How is it described there?

Below you can see the writing “1519 J. Robinson 1594,” yet it is unclear what this may mean. Potentially it could be another catalogue entry?

Any thoughts or ideas about the authentication of this drawing?
